Local government area chairman in Akwa Ibom State have been put to task over the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
Area Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mrs. Imaette Umouman, stated this at a one-day awareness campaign on the dangers of drugs abuse and trafficking held at Uquo in Esit Eket Local Government Area.
Umouman said the full support and involvement of chairmen in the 31 local government areas of the state would achieve a great effort to reduce the problem.
According to her, the participation of stakeholders will make the community drug-free by supporting the anti-drug programme in the community.
Umouman explained that the state command had reached out to the grassroots to introduce free counseling clinic victims and enlighten parents on the early identification of the signs and symptoms of drug abuse.
She called on chairmen, community leaders, stakeholders to assist the agency to fish out defaulters and offenders in their domain.
If the chairmen fish out defaulters, Umouman stated, it will help reduce the dangers of drug abuse at the grassroots.
