Ugborodo community and EPZ Project (1)

Against speculations of a purported crisis said to be rocking Ugborodo community in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, indigenes and community heads of Madangho, Ajaudaibo, Ogidigben, Akpakpa communities of Ugborodo over the weekend in a peaceful protest, reaffirmed that the community is very peaceful and investment friendly to accommodate the EPZ Project to be hosted by the community.

Addressing newsmen on the state of security in the community, Mr. Alex Eyengho and Mr. Jolomi Metseagharun, both members of the EPZ Committee set up by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, in the company of placard carrying indigenes of the community, stated that what was being experienced in the community was an isolated internal community politics happening in one of the communities making up Ugborodo, which is an act of criminality.

Speaking on the issue, they pointed out that criminality cannot be introduced in the name of community politics and that although the law enforcement agencies have taken up the matter, it had nothing to do with the proposed EPZ Project.

“As you can see following a tour of communities making Ugborodo, “The people of the area are happy with the project as it would bring job opportunities for not only them but more than enough for the entire Delta State and that is why they are appreciative of the government of the day for the project,” they added.

On his part, the Chairman of Madangho community, Mr. Benson Okoturoh in the company of the Madangho Community Youth Chairman, said, “Madangho is a peaceful community, what we are waiting for is the commencement of the EPZ project.”

At Ogidigben community, the Woman Leader of the community, Madam Mercy Olowu while welcoming officials of the NNPC, Chief Ayiri Emami and the Chief Security Officer of the area who were at the community for an assessment visit, stated the peaceful resolve of the people of the area to work with the officials in the success of the project when it begins.

Some inscriptions on the placards read: “Peace is part of us in Ugborodo”, “EPZ is the new hope, NNPC please act fast”, and “Thank you Uduaghan for EPZ opportunity”.

Other community youth chairmen who spoke on the current peace being witnessed in the community are Japheth Emami, Akpakpa-Ajudaibo; David Mamah, Ogidigben and a woman leader, Madam Mabel Osangbajumi from Madangho Community.
