Former Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, has passed a vote of confidence in the Nigerian military over their successful suppression of the activities of Islamic insurgent, Boko Haram, in the North Eastern part of the country.
Onuesoke, who gave the commendation in Dutse, Jigawa State, while delivering a lecture entitled “Climate Change and the Aftermath of War”, organied by a group under the aegis of Nigerian Democratic Movement (NDM), said the recent successes recorded by the military and other security agencies in repelling the attacks by the militants in the North Eastern part of Nigeria were most encouraging and soothing.
He argued that each of the successful counter-terrorism missions launched recently by the military in the Northeast was a victory for civilised humanity, a promise of peace and liberty, and a reassurance of security and territorial integrity of Nigeria.
He added that the successful military operations led to the liberation of many communities hitherto held by the Boko Harm insurgents.
The PDP stalwart affirmed that the recent military action demonstrated “how gallant our military could be, when properly equipped with the necessary arsenals, logistics and moral support.”
According to him, “I commend the Nigerian Armed Forces for reclaiming Baga and recapturing Monguno from Boko Haram in a manner that showed military prowess. The robust military campaign and successes in Gwoza, as well as Gajigana, Ngaze, Ngenzai, Marte Junction, Mile 90, Yoyo, Kekeno, Kukawa, Cross Kauwa, Kangarwa, Amirari, Kichimatari, Borokari Barati, and Kauwa are not only commendable, but are also desirable for the sustenance of security of the nation.”
He disclosed that the interests and concerted efforts and cooperation of Nigeria’s neighbours, coupled with effective military strategy, the activities of Boko Haram would be a thing of the past.
While commending the military success, Onuesoke, however, reminded the military that it is not yet ‘uhuru’ because Boko Haram has proven its ability to survive in the past, advising that the military campaign must be sustained until the Northeast is free from the activities of insurgents.
