Mr. Kainji Aluge Obia is the deputy director general of Doris Uboh Campaign Organisation. He is also the Ika South Local Government Area coordinator of Team Ochei.

In this interview with Special Correspondent Sunday Apah he urges the people of Ika Federal Constituency to cast their votes for Doris Uboh, come March 28 in the House of Representatives election. Excerpts:

How are you sure Hon Doris Uboh is going to win the March 28 House of Representatives election in Ika Federal Constituency, particularly now that Ika people are declaring that they are going to vote PDP all the way in the 2015 general elections?

We have done our job well. Our campaign is grassroots-oriented. You are aware I am a card-carrying member of the PDP, despite the fact that I am working for Hon. Doris Uboh and Hon Victor Ochei, Accord Party House of Representatives and senatorial candidates respectively. We are working on the precedents set by our PDP leaders in Ika South, who worked for the opposition in 2011.

As we campaign for Uboh and Ochei, we are very much aware that the PDP governorship candidate for Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, is a very good and sellable material. He is an asset to us as we go on with our electioneering; we are also using the medium to campaign for Okowa.

We have been told by some PDP members that Accord Party is part of PDP. Is Hon Doris Uboh not threading on a difficult terrain, considering the fact that she is not a PDP House of Representatives candidate and secondly, the Ika people in their attempt to vote for Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as governor, might not have anything to do with the opposition?

No, Hon Doris Uboh is on the right track and we are praying to the Almighty God to give her victory come March 28. In terms of campaigns, Hon Doris Uboh has done marvellously well. Also, in terms of performance, Doris Uboh is the best House of Representatives member Ika federal constituency has ever produced. If you are a man and married to two wives, you should be able to know, which one between the two that is better. Uboh during the time she represented Ika federal constituency in the National Assembly executed over 52 projects. She sponsored over three bills, including the popular National Minimum Wage Bill. Unlike her successor, Doris Uboh was fully involved in the day-to-day business of the House. She was a fighter, outspoken, intelligent, and purposeful and a result-oriented lawmaker. She made sure the dividends of democracy got to her people. In 2011, when Uboh was the PDP House of Representatives candidate for the federal constituency, those saying that she is in the opposition worked for the Accord Party House of Representatives candidate. However, we should put sentiments aside and cast our votes for Doris Uboh for she is a potential candidates Her scorecard and achievements as a former lawmaker speak volumes.

Victor Nwokolo contested against the PDP House of Representatives candidate, Hon Doris Uboh in 2011 and won. Did you see history repeating itself in 2015?

Point of correction, Doris Uboh won, but victory was taken away from her because of the principle of “turn-by-turn in Ika North East”. Yes! Uboh is going to win the 2015 House of Representatives election in Ika federal constituency. She is going to win because her performance and achievements are speaking for her. There is no community or ward in Ika federal constituency that Doris Uboh did not execute project in. In addition, Doris Uboh is going to win because for the sake of equity, it is the turn of Ika South to produce the next House of Representatives member in our constituency. Our dear brother Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, by the grace of the Almighty God, is the governorship candidate of the PDP for Delta State. If equity is preached and upheld at the state and national levels, it will also be good we preach and uphold it in our federal constituency. That is the way I see it. It is proper that Ika South has a representation in the House of Representatives; otherwise it will mean eight years of non-representational from Ika South. It is good and pertinent to note that in this current dispensation, both senator and rep seat are occupied by Ika North East (Okowa and Nwokolo), leaving Ika South with nothing at the federal level, then in the next dispensation. Governor and House of Representative still in Ika North East, so where does equity come in as it is being preached across Delta State. If Anioma State is created and Ika nation becomes a senatorial district, who will decide for us in Ika South. Don’t forget that you get more prominence when you are part of a decision making process than if you are absent. Since Hon Uboh is the most credible person for the 2015 House of Representatives election, it is good we vote for her. For me to be on ground to work for her and even to the extent of committing myself to her campaign, it shows how much I believed in her. I am not afraid working for her. If one can recall in 2011, some PDP leaders in Ika South worked for Dr. (Mrs.) Isioma Okohbah, then House of Representatives candidate. After then, a PDP local government chairman got a return ticket to the United States of America, and came back with exotic cars. The PDP South South chairman in 2011 worked against Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and Martin Okonta, that was why Uduaghan lost his election that year in Ika South. To the extent that he made a promise that if Okonta wins, he will commit suicide. Today, the surprise was that the man that worked against the PDP in 2011 is now the South South chairman of the party. The re-election of President Jonathan and Senator Okowa are paramount to us. It cannot be PDP all the way. It is a personality contest for the House of Representatives and Senate seats. In the history of Ika South politics, there is reward for anti-party activities, we are used to it.
