Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Sapele chapter, gathered aspirants from the four main political parties in Delta State for a one-day peace and progress prayer rally on March 8 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Sapele.
The parties invited to the programme were the Peoples Democratic Parties (PDP), All Progressive Party (APC), Labour Party (LP), and Accord Party (AP).
Present on the occasion were Chief Ighoyota Amori, the PDP senatorial candidate, Monday Ovwigho Igbuya, the PDP House of Assembly candidate, Chief Ochuko Halims Agoda, senatorial candidate of APC, representative of Anirah, the House of Assembly candidate of APC, representative of Evelyn Oboro, the House of Representative candidate of PDP and a host of others.
As part of the programme, each aspirant present and their representatives were given five minutes to speak on peaceful elections. A brief charge was given by the chairman CCN, Rev. D P.O.A. Ebonoke, the topic of the message was ‘’Christian Political Office Seekers, the drama of Fame or Shame’’.
Rev. Ebonoke admonished the aspirants to have the fear of God as they aspire for political office and endeavour to do God’s will when they get into office.
The CCN Chairman rounded up his message by saying any political deceiver should step down before the elections.
Highlights of the programme were prayers for peaceful elections in Nigeria, Delta State and Sapele Local Government Area, led by the Bishop of Methodist Church, Sapele, Rev. Olasoji Osuntoye.
Prayers were also said for the hand of God to be upon Sapele, for progress and development for Sapele local government and for God to pick the persons of His choice for the various offices from the candidates.
At the end of the programme, thanks were given to God and candidates present affirmed that they are all of one family and that at the end of the day, there shall be no victor and no vanquished.
