President, Association of Women Travel Executive of Nigeria (AWTEN), Mrs. Bunmi Aremu, has promised that members of the group would continue to contribute to the development of the tourism sector of Cross River State.
Aremu said the resolve of the members of AWTEN to support the sector is because the state is endowed with great tourism potentials.
Aremu stated this during a dinner organized for members of the association at Tinapa Lake side hotel, at the instance of the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Obioma Liyel Imoke.
Aremu, who said her team came to the state to explore business opportunities in the tourism sector, expressed satisfaction with what is on ground at some tourist sites visited but demanded for an improvement.
“From what we have seen in Cross River, we have better and great tourism potentials here; its just a matter of managing very well what we have”, she said.
Aremu, who is the managing director of Sprints Travels, said the association is a forum where stakeholders meet and exchange ideas on current market trend in the industry.
Deputy President of the association, Tinuke Nwakohu, said their visit to Calabar has afforded the team unfettered access to information, with a view to do the required marketing of the state.
“It is very difficult to effectively market a destination you have not been to. What we use this kind of tour to achieve is to come into a state or country, look at facilities they have and begin to market them to the world at large,” Nwakohu said.
She expressed concern over the state of the Mary Slessor tourist site at Creek Town and advised that the place be given a facelift to boost the state’s tourism profile. “When we visited Mary Slessor’s place in Creek Town we were excited because everybody who went to school in Nigeria, in one way or the other must have heard about her legacy”, she said.
