The Cross River State government has ordered stoppage of work on a three storey building at 105 Aroline Barracks behind Police Barracks/Nipost Quarters, off Nyok Esu Street in Calabar Municipality. State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Ralph Uche, gave the order on behalf of the state government.

He also ordered the immediate withdrawal of an earlier building plan approval for the building because of observable structural defects.

The orders were handed out when the Commissioner and some management staff of the ministry had an on-the-spot assessment of the three storey building and environs.

He explained that the defects will result in eventual collapse of the building and attendant danger to lives and property, adding that the building has no clearly defined access.

The developer of the three storey building was directed to seal back the illegal access created by him through the Big Qua Shopping Mall.
