An Oredo Magistrate’s Court, Benin, has sentenced a 32-year-old man, Ehimwenman Bright, to six months in prison for driving unregistered car.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Peter Edo- Asemota, sentenced Bright after he pleaded guilty with option of N10, 000 fines.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Samuel Ogah, told the court that on June 3, 2014, a team of policemen led by the Area Commandant arrested the convict, while driving the unregistered Sinna vehicle.
Ogah said the convict drove the car around Third East Circular road, Benin, without prescribed identity.
The prosecutor said after the arrest, the convict was taken to Central Motor-Traffic Division, Benin, where he made a confessional statement that he committed the crime. The convict told the court that he was given a period to sell the car, adding that he was on his way to return the car to the rightful owner when the police arrested him.
He, however, appealed to the court for leniency, that he was a first offender in the court.
