Efforts by the councilors of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State to effect the removal of the leader of the legislative arm, Miss Abibat Yakubu, have ended in futility.
The legislative organ was recently embroiled in controversy following attempt by members to oust the incumbent leader for alleged incompetence.
It was gathered that intervention by All Progressive Congress leaders in the locality saved the leader’s job, as the party leaders were said to have convinced the council legislators on the need to avoid unnecessary bickering.
At a plenary presided over by Yakubu, the House resolved to shelve the idea to impeach the leader and re-affirmed their support for her leadership.
Mr. Marvelous Zibiri, member representing Ward 8, described the misunderstanding among the councilors as unfortunate, but usual in democratic process.
He moved a motion declaring all moves to impeach the leader null,
void and of no consequence, and was seconded by the majority leader, Aruna Aliu, representing ward one.
In her remark, the Leader, Yakubu, thanked the members for the confidence reposed on her and expressed determination to carry every member along, enthusing that the legislative house was capable of resolving its internal problems.
