The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmanship candidate for Oredo Local Government Area in the last local government poll in Edo State, Osahon Igiebor, has called on the state government to focus more attention on job creation and human capacity building.
Igiebor, who spoke to newsmen in Benin on the recent celebration of Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s five years in office, also urged the state government to embark on the formulation of policies capable of attracting entrepreneurial system that will promote private sector-driven in the state.
While describing what he called “increasing mass youth unemployment in the state” as embarrassment, the former PDP candidate said the recent celebration was a misplacement of priorities on the part of the executive, adding that the earlier the government re-orders its priority, especially in the area of employment the better for the state. According to him, the recent five years anniversary celebration of Gov. Adams Oshiomhole led ACN now APC government raised questions on the merits of such celebration, particularly when the army of unemployed youths is on the increase daily in the state.
He said he would have suggested that rather than spending such fund on a celebration to mark his five years in office, it would have been better and more profitable to the state if the governor had launched another youth progamme under any name with that fund, adding that his stewardship where mass of the youth are unemployed is vile toward maintaining a secured state and development.
