Four In Court Count For Vandalising BEDC Property In Edo

Four persons have been arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Benin for allegedly vandalising property of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) at Ugbalo Irrua Community in Esan Central Local Government area of Edo State.

The suspects, Alexander Onoguekhian, 28; Akhidue Osadebamen, 26; Awalu Buhari, 30; and Jamilu Falelu, were arraigned before Justice M. A. Liman, on a three count charge of conspiracy. According to the prosecution, the four accused persons had on or about March 16, 2015 at Ugbalo Irrua Community, Esan Central Local Government of Edo State conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit tampering with electric plant work, etc and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 3 (6) of the miscellaneous offences Act Cap. M. 17 Vol. 9 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The four accused persons were also said to have unlawfully disconnected, removed, damaged, tempered, meddled with and interfered with plants, work, wires or assembly of wires designed or used for transforming or converting electricity, property of BEDC and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 1 (9) of the miscellaneous offences Act Cap. M. 17 Vol. 9 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The accused persons were further accused of wilfully and unlawfully with intent to destroy, damaged electric cable wires and transformer by rendering it non-functional and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 1 (3) (6) of the miscellaneous offences Act Cap. M. 17 Vol. 9 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
