President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Dr. Olasupo Ayokunle, has said that the promotion of ethnicity is hampered the development of Nigeria.
Ayokunle, who is also the Vice President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), spoke at the dedication of a church auditorium at the First Baptist Church, Ovom, Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.
He said the undue emphasis placed on the factor of ethnicity in considerations at various tires of government had impeded genuine growth and development of the country. Ayokunle, who spoke on the topic, ‘Turning Your Dream to Reality’ said that greatness was the manifestations of one’s dreams, noting that “Dream is not reality but it is the path to reality. Without dream, there is nothing to produce. Great people are products of their dreams.”
He outlined seven requirements to turn dream to reality including awareness backed with vision and initiative, cooperation, seeking God’s face, working with God, hard work, standing by faith against challenges and being ready to possess.
Dignitaries at the church auditorium dedication service included Governor Seriake Dickson, who was represented by the deputy governor, John Jonah; Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kemasuode Wodu; former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Ayebaesin Edoghotu-Omoh, who also served as dedication committee chairman and the President of Bayelsa Baptist Conference, Dr. Humphrey Edoghotu, among others.
In his remarks, Governor Dickson commended the leadership and members of First Baptist Church Ovom, Yenagoa, for the efforts, courage and sacrifice they put into building the edifice which foundation was done on 9 February, 2002.
