Crisis may be looming in Delta state as the Urhobo and the Itsekiri bicker over appointments made by the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa- led government.
Chieftains of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Warri are at loggerheads over the appointments in which they said the Warri Itsekiri were given five slots against three slots given to the Warri Urhobos.
Two PDP stalwarts of Warri Urhobos origin, Hon Marvins Okeoghene Onojeghwo a two-time former councillor representing Igbudu Ward Warri South Local Government Council and Comrade Stanley Agbosa a member of the prestigious Urhobo Peoples Integrity Organisation while addressing the press on the issue in Warri over the weekend warned that the Urhobos of Warri will no longer play a second fiddle to the Itsekiris in the politics of Warri, even as they accused the PDP Warri Urhobos leaders of not representing their followers justly.
Hon Onojeghwo said that of the 12 ward Structure under the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Urhobos of Warri had seven even as they are more in population than the Itsekiris. He said that based on those statistics, there was no basis or reason why the Urhobos of Warri should be short-changed by Itsekiri in the sharing of political offices.
“Uduaghan has left office; this is a new dispensation. So our leaders have no excuse of saying that Uduaghan is marginalising us again. We must make our stand known to Governor Okowa. If we cannot fight our fight, who will fight it for us.”
Onojeghwo also said that the 19 ward structure created by the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) in Warri South was made to witch hunt the Agbarha Warri Urhobos whom he said have four wards under the DSIEC. He therefore called on DSIEC to address the injustice under Governor Okowa’s administration.
Comrade Agbosa also alleged that dividends of democracy have always been recycled among the leadership of Warri Urhobos warning that if the alleged ugly trend does not change, “we their followers may be forced to form a parallel PDP Warri Urhobo faction in Warri South as our leaders have fail us woefully”.
