The Congress of Newly Employed Civil Servant (CNECS), Delta State Chapter has asked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to withdraw the suspension placed on the ongoing recruitment exercise in the state or they will be forced to take legal action if the suspension is not lifted within 72 hours.
Governor Okowa had by a circular letter reference number GHA16 Vol. VI/154 of 1st June, 2015, suspended the ongoing recruitment exercise.
However, CNECS in a communiqué signed by Comrade Regha Obus and Agba Okeme, Chairman and Secretary respectively, and three others described the suspension of the ongoing recruitment as repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience, even as they said it was aimed at punishing “innocent newly employed civil servants unjustly for the sin of Government official and members of the commission.”
The body called on Governor Okowa to look into the report of the Committee set up by former Governor Emanuel Uduaghan and make same public for the good of Deltans while the culprit of the alleged fraud and corruption in the civil service commission should be prosecuted within a reasonable time.
According to CNECS, they had since resumed work at our various ministries, department and agencies of assignment/deployment, that a greater number of them resigned their appointment in their former organization to pick up the civil service job with the joy of serving our state Delta and in view of the above, the affected civil servants are bonafide staff of the Delta State civil service.
They argued that their employment by Delta State Civil Service Commission went through due process via application stage, invitation to interview stage and having successfully passed the interview, are given offer of employment by the Commission between January 1st 2014 – 31st May, 2015 and all offer which was subsequently and duly accepted before June 1st 2015 when the suspension was placed on the exercise are lawful civil servant of Delta State civil service.
“We are Deltans, who passionately followed your campaign manifesto, tagged prosperity for all Deltans”. We followed you, we campaign for you, and we voted for you, we defended our votes and ensured it counted; we celebrated you and rejoice with you on your inauguration. We believed that the “righteous had been enthroned”, but most ridiculously, your circular which is retroactive is poverty for all Deltans.”
