The Centre for the Vulnerable and the Underprivileged (Centrep) has applauded the spirit of statesmanship displayed by President Goodluck Jonathan by conceding defeat to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in the March 28 Presidential election.
Executive Director of Centrep, Mr Oghenejabor Ikimi, gave the commendation in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Warri.
Ikimi, who congratulated Buhari on his victory, attributed the success of the election to the determination of Nigerians to have a change in leadership. “Centrep congratulates Nigerians for voting their conscience in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.
“We also welcome President Jonathan’s action in conceding defeat after the results from 35 states and the FCT were announced at the collation centre in Abuja.
“The above, no doubt, has portrayed the incumbent President as a gentleman and a true statesman,’’ he said.
Ikimi condemned the unruly conduct of Mr Godsday Orubebe in trying to disrupt proceedings at the collation centre in Abuja.
