Traders and residents of Mciver Market/Dore Street area of Warri were thrown into mourning, as a popular young female Urhobo food vendor was allegedly killed by stray bullets fired by a vigilante recently.
It was gathered that the vigilantes were on a routine raid on hard drug dealers and sellers when the incident occurred.
A source, who declined to disclose his identity, alleged that during the raid, one of the drug dealers was caught and that for fear of being rescued by other drug dealers and users, one of the vigilante shot severally into the air and in the process, some of the bullets strayed into one the breast of the food vendor, said to have just resumed for the day.
She gave up the ghost few steps from the front of her makeshift store where the incident occurred before she could be rushed a nearby medical centre and her lifeless body was dumped on the road leading to Market Road in a her pool of her own blood to the annoyance of scores of youth of the area, who barricaded all sides of the ever busy Mciver Roundabout. The youth called for the heads of the vigilantes and it took the intervention of the soldiers guarding the area to calm the nerves of the protesting youth of the area who were begged to remove the barricades.
Unconfirmed report has it that the vigilante that allegedly killed the female food vendor is now in the police net.
The remains of the late female food vendor, who hailed from Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area was seen being taken by the police to an undisclosed mortuary when our reporter arrived the scene of the incident.
However, it was gathered that the aged husband of the deceased was yet to be informed of the death of his breadwinner at as the time of filing this report.
