Inmates of the Eku Leprosy Centre, Ethiope East Local Government Area in Delta State were in joyful mood recently following a cash gift of N50,000 and pledge of N.6million annually by the Labour Party (LP) House of Representative candidate, Victor Adarighofua Sota, to assist in cushioning the hardship among the lepers at the centre.
Sota, while on a campaign visit to the home of the infected families, was touched by the plight of the inmates, who lacked basic amenities, pledged to make a monthly contribution of N50,000 towards their welfare and as well assist in other areas to uplift the status of the centre.
The Ethiope Federal Constituency candidate for LP received applause from the inmates and staff of the centre, who promised to give him (Sota) and the party’s governorship flag bearer, Chief Great Ogoboru, their votes in the forthcoming elections.
The over two hundred gathering at the lepers overcrowded hall, dressed in their best attires to welcome Sota and members of his campaign team, raised praise songs and encapsulated the community’s gratitude by solemn prayers to God for the success of the candidates at the polls.
Sota, who was on a campaign to Ethiope Federal Constituency, also played guest to a group know as Grassroots Mobilisation Movement, whose spokesman assured the contestant of the movement’s support. The spokesman described the candidate as “most qualified, experienced and most mature candidate in the race.”
Sota’s campaign train also took him to Oruarivie-Abraka where he was received by the Abraka Mass Movement for Change and was later joined LP’s senatorial candidate, Chief Ovie Omo-Agege.
