A Warri-based Niger Delta activist and constitutional lawyer, Dr. Akpo Mudiaga Odje, has condemned the stoning of the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan in Kastina and some other Northern states, describing the action as an attack on the sovereignty and sovereign will of the entire people of Nigeria who he noted voted overwhelmingly for Dr. Goodluck Jonathan into office in 2011.

This was contained in a release entitled “Niger Delta Must Unite for Goodluck Jonathan” and issued in Warri. The renowned author and publisher challenged Northern leaders to ensure civility and decorum by their people and give President Jonathan the respect he deserved.

He, however, he said that nobody can stop President Jonathan from contesting the Presidential election.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us even more to us the oil producing communities in Delta State that provide the wealth of the nation,” he stated.

He further challenged Muhammadu Buhari to go to the polls if he (Buhari) wants a change in government “and not by acts of barbarism and primordial antics as well as selfless violence”.

The facilitator of Niger Delta Development Union (NDDU) in the release, however commended President Jonathan for ensuring that the presidential campaign of General Buhari to Bayelsa and the South-South states were hitch free.

He also commended Jonathan for the reduction of the pump price of petrol and rule of law in Nigeria.

“These are testimonies to the world that he is a democrat and a gentleman who plays by the rules. Political persecution and intimidation ended with the advent of Goodluck Jonathan administration in 2011,” said.

Odje again noted that Dr Jonathan has demonstrated statesmanship and nationalistic trapping by evenly developing the entire Nigeria even to the detriment of his region.

He called on Niger Delta peopleto unite for Jonathan, stressing that Niger Deltans must unite before the elections so that the re-election of Jonathan will be easier, adding: “We know we cannot do it alone but we must first be united before we reach out to others”.
