Benin Forum, a body of all Benin people at home and in the Diaspora, has called on the Benin people in the North and other parts of country to remain calm and go about their legitimate businesses, adding that there will be no crisis before, during and after the general elections.
The forum described the prediction that there will be war after the election as false alarm by those who did not wish the country well and asked those relocating from the northern parts of the country to go back to their respective abode, adding that the February 2015 general elections will come and go and Nigeria will still remain as one nation.
The forum also frowned at the activities of some groups it described as anti-democratic forces that are calling for the shifting of general elections, saying that the intention was to cause chaos and anarchy in the country.
All these were contained in a communiqué issued and signed by Chief David Edebiri, Esogban of Benin and H.O Ogbodu, chairman and secretary general respectively of the forum after a meeting of the forum in Benin.
The forum called on all stakeholders in the elections to appeal to their supporters to observe the approved ethical standards before during and after the elections.
While expressing satisfaction with the manner in which Edo South Senatorial district aspirants were conducting themselves in their campaigns, the forum enjoined eligible voters, who are yet to collect their PVCs to immediately do so
They stressed that the forum is apolitical and warned politicians jumping from one party to another and those calling for war to desist, saying that the election will be free from crises.
Edebiri stated further, “I can assure that there will be no problem before during and after elections. Those saying heaven will fall and those moving from pillar to post, I also want to assure them that there will be no violence in this month’s elections. They will be like any other elections that have taken place in this country.
