A former Minister of State for Education, Kenneth Gbagi, has said the present leadership of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) will be dissolved and restructured to ensure that it does the right thing always.
Gbagi, who stated this when he played host to the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, added that Okowa won the PDP primary because he was the most popular aspirant among the lot that sought the position.
He said, “We Urhobo will massively vote for him despite the decision of the UPU to work against a Delta North candidate. We, as a people will dissolve the present UPU executive and restructure it for it to serve the purpose it was made for. If they can collect Jeeps from Mrs. Ngozi Olejeme, Hon. Victor Ochei and Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, who are Delta northerners, why should they work against a Delta North candidate”.
Gbagi urged Urhobo people to forget their differences and vote for Okowa because it will be Urhobo turn tomorrow.
“It will be a win-win situation for Urhobo with Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as governor. Okowa has no power to run PDP himself, so there should be no fear that Urhobo will be neglected or shortchanged”, he added.
Okowa, on his part, said he is confident that come February, PDP will win all the local government areas in Delta central, adding that with the feelers he is getting from top politicians in Delta central, PDP will sweep Urhobo land.
He said, “I am a friend of Urhobo and son of Urhobo, who understands the politics of Delta State. There is no doubt that Urhobo have the population power and have a lot of political bigwigs in the state. I want to assure Urhobo that what is due them will be given to them adequately.”
