Wife of House Committee Chairman on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) at the House of Representatives, Mrs. Blessing Mutu, has called on the federal and state governments and other stakeholders in the education sector to make concerted effort to improve on primary and secondary school education in the creeks of the Niger Delta region.

Mutu noted that since education was the bedrock from which every nation can attain greatness and overcome poverty, it is imperative for the government and well meaning individuals to provide and improve upon the educational standard of children from the creeks to enable them live meaningful life.

Mrs. Mutu who made these statements as at Akugbene town during a Christmas party held for children of her husband’s constituency, noted that the children displayed high standard of intelligence during the quiz and spelling competitions, adding that if adequate education resources and facilities were provided, they could do better.

She advised parents and guidance to encourage their wards in their education pursuit not to engage their children in domestic and occupational activities during school periods. Mutu also tasked the children to take their education seriously and avoid bad company so that they could not be lured to drop out of school.

A parent, who spoke on behalf the children, thank Mrs. Mutu for taking time to celebrate and giving out gift items (school kits, books, wrappers, bags of table salt) to children and women of Akugbene town, describing the gesture as extra-ordinary.

She promised that, the children will make good use of the items as well as those given to the women folk prayed to God to continually bless the Mutu’s family.
