The Oba of Ogbaland in Rivers, Oba Chukwumela Nnam-Obi, has said that peace had returned to Omoku, headquarter of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni council of the state.

Obi disclosed this in a statement in Port Harcourt that peace had returned to Omoku after clashes by unknown gunmen, which led to the death of some residents of the area.

He said the community was raided by gunmen suspected to be rival cult groups, forcing some indigenes and residents of the area to flee from their homes.

“Peace has returned to our oil rich community which was recently nicknamed `point and kill’ by gunmen who were killing, kidnapping and committing all kinds of atrocities.’’

He said that a meeting of traditional rulers, chiefs, political leaders, security agencies, youth leaders and others was held to find a lasting solution to the crises.

Obi expressed sadness over the death of victims of the crises in the area and called for peace in the community.

He described the perpetrators and their sponsors as enemies of Ogba kingdom, and prayed God to give bereaved families fortitude to bear the loss.

He advised the youths to resist any attempt to be used by desperate politicians to cause crises in the state.

He said that the electoral process should be anchored on the rule of law and the will of the people rather than violence.

Obi commended the Rivers Commissioner of Police, the Joint Task Force and other security agencies for their efforts in restoring peace to the community.
