Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Cross River has expressed misgivings about the recent party primaries in the state.

IPAC, the council of all the registered political parties in the state, in statement decried the “brazen charade, perpetration of illegality, abuse of own set rules and dictatorial assumptions of some political parties”.

The statement signed by the Chairman of the council, Mr Goddie Akpama, and its Secretary, Mr Austin Ibok, alleged that some parties perpetrated illegality in the conduct of the primaries for the 2015 general elections.

“The leadership of IPAC watched in dismay and utmost disbelief the predatory assumption of their despotic and arbitrary abuse of the rule of law which if not checked will lead to systemic collapse,” it said.

It expressed concern that the parties breached the 2013 Code of Conduct, which empowered it to work toward a violence-free, fair, credible and transparent electoral process. The statement said the council would make necessary recommendations to the Independent National Electoral Commission in line with its code of conduct to avoid further occurrence and preserve the sanctity of the rules made by the political parties.

“Further, the people of Cross River should be rest assured that the Inter-Party Advisory Council will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring a violence-free, credible and fair election in 2015,” it said.
