Public Health Centres (PHC) in three urban local government areas of Edo State have received family planning kits worth millions of naira from the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI) for the prosecution of family planning awareness sensitization programme in the area

The three benefiting local government areas are Egor, Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha.

The Quality Imprisonment Officer, QIO, of Benin field office of NURHI, Dr. Ishola Gbenla, while presenting the items during family planning awareness sensitization programme organized by the NGO at Ugbekun Public Health Centre, said the exact total cost of the donated family planning consumables was not immediately available.

“It would be difficult and not feasible to put the total cost at a fixed figure, considering all that have been spent. We cannot actually talk of naira in figure, but we can talk of people that have benefited from the programme.

“However, I can assure you that the donated family planning kits, including commodities and consumables are worth millions of naira. The turnout has been very impressive,” Dr. Gbenla said.

The latest family planning awareness campaign by NURHI include donation of thousands of free family planning kits to Primary Health Centres in the three local government government areas of Benin metropolis, namely, Egor, Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha, where they were subsequently distributed free of charge to willing users who turned up.

Family planning items donated include male and female condoms, daily pills, injectibles, intra-uterine device (IUD) and implants, among others.
