Succour has come to the staff and inmates of Warri Prisons as Warri Zone of Christ Embassy has donated a vehicle and other materials to them.

The donation is part of the 2014 Reach Out Nigeria campaign of the church with the theme,  “Our possibilities”.

Items donated by the Zonal Pastor, Siji Dara, included a Hilux utility van, 500 mattresses, 250 Bibles, generating set, computers, air conditioners, among others, even as the church also renovated the computer centre  and library in the prison .

Zonal Pastor, Siji Dara, in a speech, gave insight into the Reach Out Nigeria campaign which he stated that began in 2007, adding that millions of copies of Rhapsody of Realities, devotional materials, have been given to the people gratis.

To Dara, many lives have been transformed through the ‘‘messenger angel’’, and that the projects in the prison were meant to reform the inmates so that they could be re-integrated properly into the society once they leave the prison.

Group pastor, Yomi Murakiyo, who also spoke at the occasion,  reechoing the speech of Pastor Dara, said ‘’we are lending our own hands to do what we can do’’, noting that the inmates would benefit immensely from the materials.

“You can imagine somebody who has been incarcerated for so long, when he learns something, he has something to fall back on when he goes back to the society. In 2014, we have upgraded on what we have been doing. That they are in prison does not mean that God does not love them. The gospel was brought to them so that they can have hope’’, he said.

Team leader of the Prison outreach, Kingsley Otuaro, a lawyer,  said that the nation celebrates 54th independence anniversary, it behooves on the church to extend a hand of fellowship to its neighbours.

According to him, the church has the vision to take the word of God to everyone in the society irrespective of their social status.

‘‘All that we are doing is about people and error of a man should be separated from the man himself. We found out that they lacked sleeping materials and medical facility’’, he said.

While receiving the materials, Comptroller of Prison, Delta State Command, Tony Ubaike, expressed gratitude to the church for the gesture, pledging that the items would be put to good use.

‘’It is a great deal to reform the mind from negativity to positivity. I believe that we are going to use the items to reform the prison, especially the computers. We are in the computer age. We will use them for computer literacy thereby reforming them’’, he said.

Provost General,Livinus Ugwu, who spoke on behalf of the inmates, thanked Christ Embassy, stating that ‘we are pleased to know that we are still part and parcel of the society’’, and vowed that they would turn a new leaf and be integrated into the society’’.
