Warri Rebirth Initiative, a group put together by the people of Warri and its environ to work with a view to bringing back the oil-rich city to its past glory, is not a political organization, the Chairman, Kes Agbosa, has declared.
Agbosa made the clarification at the weekend, when loyalists of a governorship aspirant, Dr. Andrew Warri, who was invited to give a pep talk, invaded the venue, singing and drumming up support for him.
Apparently infuriated by the nuisance posed by the political thugs, Agbosa declared that the forum was not a political arena and asked them to stop the singing and drumming , which they obliged.
According to him, many members of the organization were politicians, but stated that such politicians must keep the toga of politics outside the objective of the group.
‘‘Warri Rebirth Initiative is not a political organization and it will not be. That Dr. Warri is here does not mean that the objective of the organization is deviated. They are politicians in WRI, but they cannot use it as a launch pad or a rallying point. I advice people to keep their toga of politics outside and come here as brothers and sisters devoid of political lining’’, he said. Agbosa also shed light on insinuations that the organization was elitist in approach and conduct, giving the caliber of its members.
He explained that members of the organization belong to the same family irrespective of their academic and social standing in the society.
‘‘WRI is not elitist. They are people who may not have very far in education. But in spite of any shortfall in academic, we belong to the same family. We also intend to bring in our children so that they can see that their parents had been living together’’, he said.
