A clarion call has gone out to the Delta State government to establish hospitals in rural riverside communities of the oil-rich state.

Founder of Tompolo Foundation, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, who made the call, said establishing hospitals and health facilities in the rural areas would bring healthcare delivery closer to the people at the grassroots.

Ekpemupolo, who spoke through the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Paul Bebenimibo, maintained that people at the coastal communities do not have access to healthcare delivery of the state government.

This obvious lack, he explained, informed the decision by the Foundation to take over two cottage hospitals at Ogulagha and Okerenkoko and renovated and furnished with the state-of-the-art medical equipment to enable the people in the areas have access to healthcare.

According to him, the health facility at Ogulagha is serving well over 85 communities cutting across Edo, Ondo and Delta states and appealed to the government to come to the aid of the Foundation with the running of the facilities.

He disclosed the Foundation recently donated drugs worth several millions of naira to  hospitals in four local governments, including, Ekpan General Hospital, Warri Central Hospital, Gbokoko Health Centre nnd Ogbe-Ijoh General Hospital, respectively.

‘‘Okerenkoko Cottage Hospital has been in disarray after it was abandoned for a long time. It could be recalled that the hospital was run by DESOPADEC before now and the Foundation took the bold step to renovate it and equip it with the state of the art medical equipemnt’’, he said.
