A former deputy governorship candidate of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Edo State, Mr. Saliu Ahmed, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ahmed, who was a running mate to Dr Arigbe Osula under the ANPP in 2007 Gubernatorial Election, joined PDP along with over 5,000 supporters.
At the PDP secretariat in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, Ahmed describe PDP as a “prospect party with great ideology.”
He said the decision to join PDP is as a result of achievement being recorded by the present administration led by President Goodluck Jonathan in transforming the nation’s economy.
“I chose PDP because the party has the greatest prospect for the prosperity of our people in the very next dispensation. I am very delighted to have taken this decision because it is the decision that put me in a position to network with my friends and associates in this community to better the lots of our people.
“I am putting all my resources into the party and I am sure result will begin to manifest in no distance future. I am excited and we hope to bring our network to reach out to our people and let them see the beauty and direction why we must all work together to ensure that we bring Edo State under the umbrella,’’ he said.
Receiving the former Deputy ANPP governorship aspirant into the PDP fold, the party chairman in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo, Alhaji Sheriff Idenobemhe, said Ahmed joining PDP was a big boost to the party not only in Etsako but Edo as a whole.
“We are receiving a great man into our party and he is well known not only in Auchi, Edo North Senatorial District, but Edo State in general. Your coming into PDP is a plus and we hope that you bring in along your wealth of experience to see that PDP takes over Edo in 2015 and 2016,’’ he said.
