Okpoitari Diongoli, former Press Secretary to the then Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State and now President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, was at the weekend crowned monarch of Opokuma Kingdom in Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.
Performing the coronation on Diongoli on Saturday at the Opokuma Grammer School field, Igbainwari, Chairman of the state Council of Traditional Rulers, Godwin Igodo, said, “with this crown, we make you the King of Opokuma Kingdom.
“Here, we hand over this staff of office to you.”
The chairman of the occasion, Lambert Eradiri, noted that the crowning of the former General Manager of Radio Bayelsa was symbolic and significant in many ways to the people of the 10 communities of the kingdom.
He stressed the need for good leadership and dutiful followership to usher in an era of development, unity and prosperity in Opokuma land.
In his acceptance speech, the newly crowned King Diongoli promised to be a servant – leader, assuring that he would work towards the collective and common good of all.
“By today’s coronation, I have come to symbolize the wind of change and be the transformational leader the people of Opokuma clan clamoured for”, said Diongoli, who was elected on March 8 this year.
While thanking his people for electing him as their king, Diongoli paid tribute to his predecessors including King Sado, Justice Owen Fiebai and Professor Williams Ogionwo, all of blessed memories.
At the event, Governor Seriake Dickson, who was represented by his Deputy, John Jonah, congratulated Diongoli on his coronation.
