The Edo Unity League, a cultural cum intellectual pressure group, has vowed to promote and protect Edo intelligentsias whose duty and meritorious service have become sour-spots in the hearts of “Nigeria’s enemies of progress”.
The group in a statement endorsed by its Vice-Chairman, Edo North chapter, Augustus E. Obadan, decried a publication in a national daily against Prof. Osayuki Oshodin, Vice Chancellor of the university.
The group noted that the publication titled: “Ghost workers scandal rocks UNIBEN”, which emanated from the content of a petition addressed to the EFCC and ICPC as well as the Police were based on the tiny figments of imagination.
It argued that the University of Benin has a time-tested Financial Records-Audit system (FRAS), which has the blessing of the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC), UNESCO and the Presidency, adding that the summary of “the mischievous publication is an attempt to investigate Prof O.G. Oshodin or the
management of UNIBEN on the pages of newspaper.”
The group further pointed out that “the said publication is an attempt to divert the attention of UNIBEN management from a sustainable impact on the students, staff and the teaching and learning infrastructure, which are the core administrative concerns of Prof Oshodin that had endeared him to President Goodluck Jonathan, the host states of Edo, Ondo, Delta and Anambra as well as the concerned public”.
