The Chairman of Owan West Local Government Area, Godwin Aigbodion, has vowed to remain focused, resolute and firm in his commitment to promote the cause of justice, equity and fair play in building on the strength of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.
The council chairman who was reacting to the just concluded local government congress, which was re-scheduled in some wards, described the congress as a shame as it was marred with irregularities and called for the entire cancellation to restore sanity into the process of electing executives of the party at the local government level.
Aigbodion alleged that the committee mandated to conduct the congress conspired with some highly placed politicians to inflate the figures of the result.
Aigbodion said 365 persons were duly accredited to vote during the congress, but when the results were turned out, the figure automatically shot to 855 thereby given room for suspicion and questioning.
Aigbodion said as the Chief Security Officer of Owan West Local Government Area, he will ensue that lives and property were protected during and after the congress and enjoined the people to turn out and perform their civil duties during the re-scheduled congress.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Macdonald Obasuke, said no thugs invaded the congress to inflict injuries on any person as alleged in the publication of a national daily.
Obasuke said, the congress was going on smoothly when it was observed that the list and names of eligible voters from wards 1, 2, 3, 4 and 11 were doctored by some highly placed politicians to favour their candidates which generated negative reaction.
According to the Commerce and Industry Commissioner, leaders and elders of the party took unanimous decision to postpone the congress to allow for amicable resolution of the differences that triggered upon the discovery that some voters’ names were omitted.
Obasuke said the using of his name and portfolio for the publication was not only vexatious, offensive, callous, and a height of irresponsible journalism, but a deliberate attempt by some persons to employ falsehood in distorting truth.
On his part, the Leader of APC in ward one, Ozalla, George Ohiomah, said he was at the congress venue, which also had in attendance security agents, without any trace of hiccups or violence and wondered where the journalist got his report that scores of injuries were inflicted on party faithful.
Ohiomah, a former supervisor for Youth and Sports, Owan West council berated the reporter or those responsible for the allegation against the council boss and the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, saying it was a deliberate attempt to drag the names of the gentlemen to the mud.
