A Warri based human rights group, Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defense (FJHRD), has implored the Federal Government to declare a total emergency rules on three northern states if it is serious about winning the war against the insurgents. The states included Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

The group wants the government to act quickly and appoint military administrators to oversee government activities in the affected states.

This position is contained in a statement issued by the National Coordinator of the group, Oghenejabor Ikimi on Monday and made available to Daily Independent in Warri.

The group advised the government to overhaul its strategies in the fight against terrorism otherwise innocent Nigerians would continue to be slaughtered by the dreaded Muslim fundamentalists, Boko Haram.

Amos UtuamaThe statement said: ‘’As the Federal Government is faced with the idea whether or not to extent its proclamation of a state of emergency in the three affected North Eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe, we call on the Federal Government for the umpteenth time to declare a full scale state of emergency in the affected states by dismantling all existing democratic structures therein by appointing military administrators to oversee the administration of the said states in a bid to firmly deal with the rising terror violence and civil war in the North East region.

‘’In April 2013, when President Goodluck Jonathan declared the present partial state of emergency in the affected states, we criticized same as been not reaching decision at tackling the spate of terror violence and the crises in the north, but unfortunately, we came under a hail of criticism from a cross section of Nigerians then.

‘’It is abundantly clear that the above partial state of emergency have failed and there is the urgent need for the Federal Government to change tactics by declaring a full scale state of emergency in the affected states and seeking military and technical support from members of the international community at dealing with the current realities on ground in a bid to restoring normalcy and peace in the region’’.
