Edo State House of Assembly has adopted a resolution urging the people of Iguomon Community to stop the destruction of lives and property, as any such reported case shall be prosecuted henceforth.
The adoption of the resolution was sequel to the consideration of the report of the House Standing Committee on Lands Survey and Housing on a petition to the House.
The petition is against Jolly Agbontaen, Sunday Odiaye, Sunday Agbontaen and Peter Omoregie on threat to life, conduct likely to cause breach of peace and damage to property
Parliament, during the deliberations of the report approved the two-point recommendations which were based on a 10-point findings.
The findings included that boundary dispute between Iguomon and Ikhuenobo communities started in 1987 terminating at the Supreme Court which judgment could not be enforced as a way to avert chaos in both communities.
The findings further indicated that though there is no known natural boundary between the two communities, the court ruled in favour of Iguomon which was resisted by Ikhuenobo for over seven years
Also included is that to avert chaos and protect Benin tradition, the Benin Monarch opted for out-of-court settlement by passing judgment which was flouted by the people of Iguomon often demonstrated through destruction of properties and houses in the guise of taking possession.
The resolution of the parliament also through the approved two point-recommendations of the committee resolved that the Benin Bye-pass should be the boundary between the two communities in the interest of peace, justice and equity.
