Essene community, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has threatened war against the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) if compensation for lands hosting power lines in the area is not paid urgently and to the right beneficiaries.
A release by the Essene Youth Assembly Leader, Mr. Uwem Umoren, indicates that some unscrupulous individuals posed as traditional fathers and presented fake names of people not affected by the power lines to be compensated by NIPP.
Umoren, who accused the state Ministry of Lands and Survey of connivance with a certain estate valuer who enumerated Ikpa Nung Asang (the affected community) by proxy said, “that estate valuer came to town and resorted to writing down names indiscriminately without recourse to the real owners affected by the power line right of way and without consulting the traditional institution in the area.
