Etok has failed Ikot Ekpene senatorial district, says Enoidem

By Idongesit Ashameri  -   Uyo

Members of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district have decried what they described as woeful failure of Senator Aloysius Etok.

Expressing disappointment while interacting with newsmen in his office, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties, Emmanuel Enoidem, declared Etok’s two-term stay at the National Assembly as futile.

“If you go and check his attendants at the Senate, he is the least. He is a businessman than a senator.  You will notice that his attendant is the least in terms of number of days he appeared,” he exclaimed.

Reacting to recent claims by the law-maker in an interview that he, Etok, is hated by Governor Akpabio because he moved the motion for Jonathan to take over at the demise of President Yar’Adua, Enoidem said, “Godswill Akpabio was very vocal and very pivotal in the emergence of Jonathan despite all the intrigues to scuttle the attempts of Jonathan to take over from his late boss and in obedience to the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, because the position of the constitution is very clear as when the president dies.

“To start with, our senator does not have any capacity to support Jonathan. He lacks capacity, both in his wards, in his local government and from the entire senatorial district he represents. So, I don’t know what level of power or support he will be able to gather for the president”.

The commissioner, who is from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, regretted to make public, the fact that Etok has neither called for constituency briefing to render account of his stewardship during his two-term tenure as senator, not attracted any form of development even to his immediate community.

On claims by the Senator that Governor Akpabio is intimidated by his performance, Enoidem said,

“Well I don’t know what he is referring to over-performance. If he is talking about the number of motions he has moved, if he is  talking about the number of speeches he has made in the national assembly, if he is talking about the number of contributions he has made in the national assembly, or the number of constituency projects he has attracted to the senatorial district; these are verifiable.
