THE UGHOTON community of Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State has been approved for a police station by the Delta State Commissioner of Police as requested by the leadership of the Ughoton community.
In a speech made before the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ughelli Area Command, ACP Awoshola Awotinde, who came on inspection of the police post at Ughoton community, the Chairman/Unu-Amua, General Secretary and Assistant Secretary of Ughoton Community Executive Council, Mr. Andrew Agbi, Mr. Godwin Omaku and Mr. Freeborn Emakpor said the request became pertinent because of the largeness of the Ughoton and its surrounding communities. Agbi explained that Ughoton has grown to have many villages among which are; Jeddo, Ugbokodo, Unesuwodo and others and that because of the growth in population.
He said, “there is great security risk and that it is for this reason the elders and the people of the community decided to appeal to approve a police station in this community and as well as to enable them sleep with their two eyes closed.”
While pointing out the importance of the police station to the community, Agbi emphasized that most recently one of them was kidnapped in Warri and was taken through this road and that attempt made by the community youths, who launched an attack, the kidnappers displayed their guns and that was how they escaped with the victim.
He explained that it would have been difficult for the hoodlums to have escaped with the presence of a police station in the area.
