Edo State acting Chairman of the Joint Tax Board (JTB), Alhaji Kabir Mashi, has enjoined the people of the state to embrace the Tax Payers Identification Number (TIN) exercise currently going on in the country. Mashi gave the advice at the one-day stakeholders’ sensitization workshop on Tax Payers Identification Number organized by the Edo State Internal Revenue Service in collaboration with the Joint Tax Board in Benin City.

Mashi who was represented by the Programme Manager, TIN, Oduba Oduba, cited the uniqueness, reliable and centralized tax information as one of the reasons for the introduction of TIN.

“The TIN enables you to do all your tax businesses anywhere in the country,” said the JTB boss.

While asserting that TIN has benefits to both the tax authorities and the tax payers, Mashi, commended the Edo State IRS for keeping the flag flying, maintaining that Edo State remains the first to have ordered for additional biometric data equipment. Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service, Chief Oseni Elamah, said TIN was put in place for the purpose of unifying all eligible tax payers in the country.
