Oron council Chairman, Orman Esin, has appealed to Oron indigenes not to harass Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron Joshua Okpo, over admission, contracts or employment to enable the school boss remain focused on his transformation process at the nation’s premier maritime institution.
Esin, who paid a visit to Okpo in company of chiefs, youth leaders and clan heads at the weekend, noted that the entire people of Oron are pleased with the rector who restored peace to the two warring communities of Eyo-Abasi and Idua, which had been at war for decades.
He however pointed out that the local government as well as the state government tried in the past to bring lasting solution to the crisis in the warring communities, but that the two communities did not show willingness. He commended Okpo for taking it as a social responsibility to ensure that there is peace and security in the host communities and stressed that Oron people are very pleased with all that President Goodluck Jonathan has done for the academy through the appointment of Okpo, whom he said brought peace, great infrastructural development and transformation to the Maritime Academy.
Esin who urged his people not to distract the rector with their countless requests for contracts, employment, and admission, said, “this is a Federal Government institution with a core mandate to carry out its goals for the entire benefit of Nigerians”. Accordingly he promised to deploy government machineries against anyone who goes to the Academy to make unnecessary request.
