Over 300 artisanal fisher men in Edo State who registered and were captured in the Growth Enhancement Support (GES) scheme of the Agricultural Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government have benefited from the distribution of subsidised fishing inputs.
The inputs with 50 per cent subsidy included fishing canoes, bundles of nets with accessories including floats, sinkers and marine rope.
The beneficiaries, who are in 60 groups, were drawn from Agenebode Akeh, Udochi, Udaba-Ekperi, Ofukpo, Osemegbe, Illushi, Ifeku Island, Evbuarue-Nukpo, Gelegele, Oregbeni, Temboga, Ogbese and Olumoye communities in the state.
Before declaring the presentation ceremony open, at Illushi, Esan South East Local Government Area, Edo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Abdul Oroh, disclosed that the state was among the 27 states in Nigeria, including Federal Capital Territory that benefited from the Fisheries Value Chain under the GES scheme.
He reiterated that only artisanal fishermen who registered for the scheme are benefiting from the input distribution exercise.
