The Chairman of Sapele Transition Committee, Julius Egbedi, has charged the beneficiaries of the Federal Government initiated SURE-P to utilize their empowerment packages and starter packs. Egbedi said that the programme is a product of the removal of oil subsidy by the Federal Government.

He said that the government deemed it fit to plough money accruing from partial subsidy removal to reduce poverty hence the Subsidy Reinvestment Programme. Egbedi declared that ‘‘I am happy to announce that we are gathered here today to flag-off the SURE-P of Sapele Local Government Area. This office has put in place programmes /plans to empower not less than 550 youths, women, men of the council as part of its resolve to join hands with the Fedral Government to reduce poverty.’’                             Egbedi said they were disbursing the packages to the beneficiaries for petty trading while beneficiaries for other trades would commence a month crash training programme to prepare them for the presentation of tools and equipment for their various trades.

He admonished beneficiaries ‘‘to make good use of whatever they shall get from local government today to better their lives, their dependants  and the society in general.’’
