The Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), South South zone, Rev God-dowell Avwomakpa (JP), has called on Nigerians to celebrate the 100 years anniversary of Nigeria as a united country in peace.

Avwomakpa said that Nigerians should think of positive things that benefited us as a people through the amalgamation of Southern and Northern protectorates in 1914 by the colonial Governor, Lord Lugard, adding that “we should avoid negative things that will jeopardize the peace of this country.”

Avwomakpa during the ‘Memorial Giving Unto God’ at Christ Missionaries Crusaders Church, Warri, took a cursory look at the events unfolding in Nigeria today and remarked that though there are tribulations arising from greed, religious extremism, selfishness, hatred, tribalism and corruption there is still hope that Nigeria will emerge more united, stressing that “we shall enjoy the enduring peace that would return to the country.”

Avwomakpa said that “by January 2014 Nigeria will be 100 years old and we shall look back and  say God has done well for us as a people and as a country. Therefore, we have every reason to thank God for all he has done for us.”

He assured the that “we are destined to enjoy and celebrate 100 years of nationhood.”

According to him, “we have to praise God always; even for our daily existence because the more praise we give to God the more Satan becomes confused. Your weapon against Satan is faith in God, prayer and praising God always.  Thanksgiving is showing appreciation to God for what He has done for you most especially for keeping you alive from one harvest season to another.  God has done for us what we cannot do ourselves.  The more you appreciate God through thanksgiving, the more blessing, peace and protection you will get from God. We have to break the yoke of satanic bondage and liberate ourselves” he added.

Avwomakpa disclosed that this year’s thanksgiving service

has God’s blessing for breakthroughs and miracles, assuring the congregation that as they leave the auditorium, they will come back to give testimonies of God’s favour and blessing which will confirm that they worshipping a living God.
