The Warri Area Command of the Nigerian Police Force has arrested the gang of armed robbers who masterminded the raid of Wetland Micro-finance Bank along Deco Road in Warri South Council of Delta State, which left a police sergeant attached to the bank killed last month.

The Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Hussaini Rabiu, disclosed this to newsmen in Warri while assuring residents of adequate security throughout the yuletide celebrations. Rabiu told newsmen that men of the command had laid ambush on the gunmen after the incident, and were apprehended through the help of informants who provided useful information to the men of the command.

He revealed that five AK 47 riffles, two facemasks and an operational vehicle was recovered from the robbers.  Rabiu disclosed that the gang leader, Mr. Oghenevwegba Okoh, aged 28, had approached the police informants to purchase ammunitions for an upcoming operation which triggered the arrest of the suspected hoodlums. According to the Warri Area commander, “At the agreed time and place, my officers intelligently laid ambush and apprehended him who thereafter assisted us to get the others. When the other gang members saw policemen, they started firing and in the cause of the gun duel, two of the armed bandits were killed and one critically injured.

“Five AK 47 riffles, two facemasks and a Volkswagen Golf 3 car with registration number, Delta WWR 779 PE, were recovered from them.”
Adding that, ‘’The two robbers, Okoh and Akpobene Oniobosa, confessed to the murder of the late Sergeant Musa Aliyu who was attached to the Wetland Micro-finance Bank and the dispossession of his riffle.”
