Experts have given reasons for various abuses and violence against women persist in Nigeria as they seek for United Nation intervention.
At a women forum in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Nsekpong Udoh of the Community Partners for Developments (CPD) and a member of the UN Women Civil Society Advisory Group (CSAG), said that most of the violent crimes against women especially sexual abuse were often shrouded in secrecy, making the victim suffer emotional pains in silence.
She lamented the negative impact of violence against women and called on stakeholders to take immediate and positive action as women are now endangered specie in the society.

(AHDC), Prof. Gabriel Umoh, listed various crimes against women.
According to Umoh, such gender-based abuses violate several human right laws and international conventions on the rights of women. He called for a collaborative efforts by governments, stakeholders and agencies to address the scourge, and observed that several abuses suffered by women were linked to unsafe environments and absence of effective security.
Also, Mrs. Eno Michael, the president, Network of Women Peer Educator of Nigeria (NEWPEN), said various factors including absence of safe environments conspire to expose women and girls to danger.
Michael disclosed that worried by the prevalence of violence against women and girls in Nigeria, stakeholders have risen in condemnation, seeking protection of their rights by the United Nations Organisations (UNO).
She announced that participants at the forum unanimously agreed that it was time inhuman treatments against women were stopped.
