A prominent political leader in Isoko, Chief Etaluku, with long political experience, had nothing but commendations for the IAN for creating the platform for cross-breeding of ideas. He urged Isoko people to be united for a common cause, adding that they should support the present leadership of Isoko in the PDP. He said their representatives in government have done well and there is the need to celebrate them.
In his words: “They have done well. Leo Ogor, Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, has done well, the Delta State SSG, Ovuozourie Macaulay, has done well, our commissioners and representatives, Tim Owhefere and others deserve our commendation and gratitude.”
The highlights of the occasion were the presentation of appointment letters to five Isoko persons and the floating of a N5 million revolving fund for Isoko women in Warri.
While eulogizing Macaulay, Hon. Leo Ogor, said he has done a lot to advance the cause of Isoko. “He has done very well in the area of appointment of Isoko sons and daughters to positions in the Delta State government. In employment and infrastructure, he has also done well. If Isoko have two or more of his kind, then we can go home and sleep because the SSG, by his body language, nuances and pronouncements, has shown that the love and unity of Isoko nation has continued to fire him, which is evident in worthwhile projects being done towards improvement of the Isoko.”
People at the event were full of praises to the two Isoko leaders, Ogor and Macaulay, who they said show love and a great spirit of cooperation with not just one another but also with other political leaders towards the common goal of improving the lives of the Isoko people.
While Ogor read out a list of people he had given employment in Abuja and projects he attracted to Isoko nation, he further demonstrated his love for his people by presenting five persons with appointment letters at the ceremony.
When the SSG got to the rostrum, he spoke on the collective approach of all Isoko leaders for greater achievements.
In his words, “The Deputy Majority Leader at the House of Representatives, your own son, Hon. Leo Ogor, has spoken to you. But let me say that nobody here is an island. We are all working as a team on behalf of the Federal Government. We are working as a team on behalf of the state government and Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON.
“We are the representatives of the government in our various places from Isoko land. And we are making progress in improving the lives of our people. We are happy that Isoko people have been appreciative for what has been done so far.”
The SSG then proceeded to announce a N5 million revolving fund for Isoko women in Warri as a way of encouraging them to engage in worthwhile ventures in their various capacities. He asked them to constitute themselves into a cooperative society and appoint a Board of Trustees to manage the fund. The money was jointly provided by the SSG and Hon. Ogor and the cheque was immediately written and presented as a measure of sincerity.
The SSG also announced that 25 persons would be given jobs soon, adding that in order to eradicate the now common “Oseship” as a prelude to begging, he (the SSG) and Chief Solomon Ogba have floated a scholarship fund of N10 million for indigent Isoko students.
Sons and daughters at the gathering were full of hopes at the end of the event that in terms of feedback from both elected and appointed political leaders, the Isoko nation has set a standard that would be unbreakable.
Earlier, Prof. Aghalino, who is also the first member of the Governing Council of the Delta State School Technology, Burutu, introduced the members of the IAN, emphasizing the need for all Isoko people to speak with one voice and attract more development to Isoko nation.
