No fewer than 5,000 Christians gathered in the city of Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital under the aegis of Christians in Politics Prayer Network to intercede for the second term bid of President Goodluck Jonathan.

In her speech, a Niger Delta right activist, Miss Ann-Kio Briggs, blamed the high level of corruption in Nigeria on bad leadership. Briggs said that the intercessory prayer meeting organized by a group was to enjoin Nigerians to pray fervently for God’s intervention in the 2015 presidential election.

‘‘In Nigeria today, we need God. We have been governed in wrong way as a people. There is still corruption in the system. Things are not the way they are supposed to be.  “This is why we need to go God. Nigeria can change. Niger Delta can change if we go to God in prayers. I think we cannot be pretending about the government of Nigeria. Things have really gone wrong,’’ she said.

The right activist flayed the rising opposition against President Jonathan’s 2015 Presidential bid and expressed optimism that those who are against Jonathan ruling Nigeria beyond 2015 will fail. According to her, ‘‘we definitely cannot pretend that the South-South man is the president of this country.

“We cannot pretend that Nigeria has been governed by people from a particular region in Nigeria for more than thirty six years now. We now have a man from another region that has been there just for two and half years and the opposition against him is so much. It is unbelievable’’.

She pointed out that the prayer meeting was initiated to seek God’s intervention to actualize Jonathan’s 2015 Presidential ambition

“This move is to pray for change and for Jonathan to remain as President is all we are doing for now. There is no pretence about it.

“I believe in God. I am championing the cause of campaigning for Jonathan and it is my choice.”
