Tompolo Foundation has concluded plans to donate educational materials worth millions of naira to four secondary schools in Delta State.
The schools include Ekpan Secondary School, Essi College, Ogbe-Ijoh Secondary School and Government Day Care.
Disclosing this in Warri, Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Paul Bebenimibo, said the donation was part of the activities lined up to mark the one year anniversary of the body.
According to the foundation, the four schools were selected after indentifying their short comings, stressing that they were lacking some basic educational materials.
Bebenimibo noted that the Foundation which is focusing on education and health issues, has achieved a great deal since it was floated last year.
He listed such achievements to include training of 50 science teachers from three councils of Warri South, Warri North and Warri South West.
He stated that the training was meant to strengthen their skill and competence, knowledge in content and exposing them to the emerging trends and challenges in pedagogy.
He also disclosed that the Foundation has donated drugs worth millions of naira to hospitals in four councils of the state, which included, Ekpan General Hospital, Warri Central Hospital, Ugbokoko Health Centre and Ogbe-Ijoh General Hospital.
He added that Okerenkoko Cottage Hospital, which had been abandoned for a long time was equally renovated and equipped with the-state-of-the-art medical equipment even as it has also donated several equipment to Ogulagha Cottage Hospital.
‘‘Okerekoko Cottage Hospital has been in disarray after it was abandoned for a long time. It could be recalled that the hospital was run by DESOPADEC before now. The Foundation took a very bold step to renovate the hospital and equipped it with the state of the art medical equipment. The Foundation has employed the services of over 40 medical volunteer members of staff. The hospital is serving over 85 communities in Ondo, Edo and Delta states. Just about seven months of operation, the hospital has recorded the inflow of over 4,463 patients,” he said.
Bebenimibo stated that the Foundation has sought the services of volunteer doctors and nurses who carried out series of operations on patients in a bid to achieve its mandate of providing healthcare services to the poor and disadvantaged in the rural communities in the country. While expressing gratitude to its numerous donors, he appealed for more funds to enable it carry out its mandate, describing financial constraint as its major hindrance.
