A team of experts from Australia will visit Katsina state by December this year to commence possible exploration of mineral deposits.

The state commissioner of Resource Development, Musa Nashuni, said on Tuesday that the visit of the team followed recent signing of Memorandum of Understanding with the state government.

Nashuni explained that the team will stay for three months and will visit all parts of the state.

He expressed optimism that the visit of the team will assist government to showcase mineral deposits from the state to the world.

“We engaged the services of Australian experts to assist us to showcase abundant mineral deposits from Katsina to the world,” he said. Nashni explained that after the completion of the work, government would determine the quality and quantity of each mineral deposits.

“We will package all the abundant mineral deposits for foreign investors,” he added.

On the chalks and paints cottage industry in the state, Nashuni identified lack of patronage as problem facing the industry. He said the cottage industry is not fully functional because of lack of market to sustain salary of the workers. Nashuni said although government has directed all contractors to patronize the cottage industry, the products of the industry are however being sold on credit to the contractors. He said government would soon hold a parley with managers of the industries to discuss ways of addressing problems facing the industry.
