Jonathan in Awka, seeks free, fair poll

Jonathan off to Ethiopia for AU meeting President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday stormed the city of Onitsha in attendance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mega rally to whip up further support for its governorship candidate, Comrade Tony Nwoye in the November 16th gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

Jonathan who came in company of PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur at the Basilika of most Holy Trinity field Onitsha urged Anambra electorates to vote for Tony Nwoye who he described as a young vibrant man with zeal to serve in order to commemorate the birthday of first President of Nigeria, late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

“This election is special in the sense that it is holding on November 16 when one of the greatest leaders of the country, Azikwe was born, it will be a very good birthday gift for great Zik and will bring Anambra state forward if you vote Comrade Tony Nwoye and PDP”

“Anambra people must work hard to make sure that the next governor of this state is elected on the platform of PDP. Don’t be

distracted by the rumours that some people are recruiting youths from neigbouring states, we must ensure security during and after the election and ensure one man one vote” he said.

President Goodluck Jonathan further reinstated the result of his administration to improve on the country’s democracy through ensuring a free and fair election where by the wishes and aspirations of Nigerians would be respected, adding that in the Anambra election, the votes must count.

Also speaking, National chairman of PDP, Bamanga Turkur noted that a vote for Tony Nwoye is a vote for an uncommon transformation announcing that the party cannot wait to take over Anambra.

Turkur also promised that with the PDP in office the dredging of the River Niger would be actualized and the River Port functional to develop the economic activities in the state.

“Don’t continue to remain outside the fold, return back to your main umbrella and get your development, that is why we insisted on free and credible primary election to make sure that whoever emerges will be a man who will be acceptable by all to make sure the internal rancour that had been the bane of PDP in the state is taken care of and we must thank Mr. President for making it possible” he said.

In his address at the occasion Akwa Ibom State Governor Dr. Godswill Akpabio explained that the importance of the rally was to announce that PDP is ready to return to the government house Awka.

“Am here to tell you the goodness that I followed Mr. President to Jerusalem and I bring with me here the blessing from the Holy Hand, Anambra, you are very lucky that this is the first political rally Mr. President is attending as a Pilgrim in the whole of Africa”

Akpabio described Comrade Tony Nwoye as one who would guarantee good governance at all levels adding that with his youthful nature Anambra would witness growth in social security and basic infrastructure.

In his speech, Comrade Tony Nwoye promised that he would conduct local government election within six months in office, adding that his youth empowerment scheme would engage the unemployment and try to eradicate crime.

“Mr. President, Anambra state is the highest state with no youth empowerment in the entire country and I am promising that if elected, I will tackle youth empowerment and ensure security of lives and revitalize agriculture by building agricultural settlements in all the. Zones and construct Teaching Hospitals in the three zones of the state.
