Akwa Ibom State government is committed to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the state in a bid to enhance social and economic development. Governor Godswill Akpabio made the declaration at the commencement of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between FUN Group and its Implementation Committee in Uyo, the state capital.
According to Akpabio, “my administration will ensure 24 hours power supply in Akwa Ibom very soon. One important thing we are trying to do in this administration is to make sure there is uninterrupted power supply in Akwa Ibom.
“We actually want to be the first to turn our turbines to have 24 hours power supply in the state,’’ he said.
Akpabio disclosed that the Independent Power Plant (IPP) would be ready soon to receive energy from Frontier Oil Limited and Septa Energy facility in Esit Eket.
The governor, who was represented by Mr Enobong Uwah, the State Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, advised the committee to be agent of progress in the discharge of their duties.
“Government expects members of the committee to be agent of progress to both the communities and the FUN Group,’’ he said.
Akpabio commended the FUN Group for coming together to construct the facility and announced that members of the implementation committee would serve for four years. The governor urged members of the committee to see their nomination as a call to service and exude responsibility and harmony to achieve the goals and objectives of the MoU. In his remark, Chief Effiong Archianga, the paramount ruler of Ibeno Local Government Area, averred that the companies should adequately fund the committee to ensure full implementation of the MoU.
“The companies should pay the committee monthly monument to make the running of the MoU to be smooth,’’ he said.
He appealed to the stakeholders to organise quarterly briefing while advising the companies not to derail from the MoU.
Also, Mr Wole Adefila, the general manager, Operations, Frontier Oil Limited, thanked the state government for its support.
