The Delta State Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has tasked political office holders in the state on the need to work for the progress of the state, saying that the era of business as usual was over.
Governor Okowa who spoke at the occasion of the thanksgiving service of the Speaker of the Delta state House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya, at Bethel Baptist Church, Sapele, appeal to Deltans to be patient with him and support his government to enable him fulfil his electioneering campaign promises of massive socio–economic and political development of the state as encapsulated in his manifesto of prosperity for all Deltans.
The governor explained that the task of building “Delta state of our collective dream rests with all of us”, noting that it was time all and sundry redoubled their efforts for the progress of the state.
The governor while thanking God for elevating the Speaker from a very humble beginning to such an enviable height, advised Christians to always remember God in whatever they do, adding that if it was not for God, he would not have become governor of Delta State.
Meanwhile, Hon. Igbuya promised the people of Sapele Local Government Area accelerated development of the area. Igbuya who was appreciating God for his goodness and mercies in his life promised that the Sapele market would be completed in no distant time. He said that contractors would be mobilised to site within two weeks.
He also disclosed that plans were on the way to redesign Sapele master plan to give the town a face lift, asserting that the Warri- Sapele road from Amukpe to the Sapele market through AT & P would be dualised.
The speaker promised that there would be harmonious work relationship between him and the governor to ensure that the speedy development of the state. He commended governor Okowa for working hard within the short time of his accession to power to reposition the state for economic prosperity.
Igbuya also thanked the entire Delta population especially the Bethel Baptist Church for their support during his election.
In his sermon at the occasion, the President of the Nigeria Baptist Convention Rev. Dr. Supo Ayekunle, advised Igbuya to be up right, speak the truth always, and be fervent in prayers, noting that prayers is the master key to multiple favour.
The man of God also advise Christian women to always pray for their husband noting that such prayer from his wife saved him and his co-travellers from the attack of armed robbers.
